Dr. Gnant is an active member of numerous associations. He has published more than 250 scientific original papers, the number of his publications currently totaling over 1,000. Over the past years, his work has been honored with more than a dozen research prizes, including the renowned Max Kade Research Award in New York and the Theodor Billroth Award, granted twice by the Austrian Surgical Society. Michael Gnant was the first Austrian, in 2004, to receive a five-year appointment as member of the Board of Directors, Breast International Group (B.I.G.), not least because of a host of sensational study results generated by the Austrian Breast & Colorectal Cancer Study Group.
In its portrait of the Viennese physician, the renowned “Cancer World” magazine details “… such that from this country of just eight million people … exciting results are now on the world stage.”
Particular attention has been paid to ABCSG Trial 12, which already attracted global attention upon being presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting in 2006.
The leader in this clinical trial, Dr. Gnant was able, together with his team, to establish a novel treatment for young women with early-stage breast cancer. The study results have since been applauded as being “revolutionary”.
